New Bulgari flagship store in Shanghai with a facade made of MAGNA Glaskeramik® Bulgari has recently opened a new flagship store in Shanghai in one of the most popular shopping malls in the city on Nanjing Road.  The new store shines in an extravagant material mix of specially created green MAGNA Glaskeramik® and brass, designed by architects MVRDV.  Inspired by a mix of influences, from the original Bulgari shop in Rome to Shanghai's unique Art Deco architecture, the project is innovative and sustainable, while remaining true to Bulgari and Shanghai's heritage.  From the outset, the ideas of the colour gradient for this extraordinary façade were very precise. In order to fulfil this customer request, we experimented in our MAGNA Glaskeramik® laboratory in Teutschenthal. After just a few trials, the perfect colour combination was found from a mixture of a wide variety of recycled green glass shards. Which was produced exclusively for this project and Bulgari.  In order to meet the technical requirements, a special thickness of 12 mm was used, with a length of up to 3500 mm. For extra safety, the façade elements were laminated on the back.  The individual façade elements made of MAGNA Glaskeramik® were manufactured with the utmost care according to the technical drawings and custom-made metal templates in a production time of approx. 15 weeks and cover a total area of 230 sqm. The project demonstrates the potential of sustainable recycled materials - also in luxury contexts - and takes a step towards the goal of the architects responsible, MVRDV and Bulgari, to build shop designs from 100% circular economy materials. At the same time, the backlighting is designed to minimise the energy consumption of the façade, using less than half the energy of a typical comparable installation.  MVRDV founding partner Jacob van Rijs comments: "With the right treatment, leftover champagne bottles that would otherwise be thrown away become a jewel for the city."  The MAGNA Glaskeramik® material can be adapted very quickly to individual customer requirements in our innovative laboratory and high-tech production.  Ask our competent team.
